CONSTANTLY CAPTIVATED

By March 20, 2025No Comments

A reality encountered in much of the world today is that most people have become caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, distracted by the worries and superficial preoccupations that come our way. Technology has become a monopolizer of the time and attention of many. In fact, I believe it is an accurate assessment that even many Christians are often more attached to their phones, computers, and television screens than they are the Word of God. I’m not pointing fingers, as I can also be tempted to do the same. Truth be told, we humans are often captivated by something, even if for only a brief time. What are you captivated by?

At Abogar International Ministries we try to maintain an annual theme for our ministry. The board of directors usually considers together what the theme of the year shall be. This year (January 2025) we have come to the conclusion that the Lord is inviting us to maintain a theme of Constantly Captivated. This theme is to remind us of the central focus of whose we are (as an organization, as well as human beings who follow and serve Jesus Christ). For progress and success to be had, we must maintain a constant connection and focus upon the Lord, Jesus Christ. However, this should not be a religious act, but it should naturally and habitually occur through our intimacy with Him, which should lead us to be captivated by His goodness, faithfulness, love, and heart for children and families.

It seems that very few humans have implemented any deep and constant habits in life. Most people seem to be tossed and moved by the wind and waves of life. There appears to be very little that is constant and disciplined. Annually, in Abogar’s retreat for the board of directors, we start the retreat off with a devotional that I lead, and it is always based on the very same passage of scripture… I Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” This passage talks of habitual, persistent, and consistent activity of life. Being constant in anything is hard, but the Word is quite clear that we should constantly rejoice, pray, and give thanks to God! As we do this, we become more and more enthralled with who God is, and our hearts, minds, and beings become captivated by His goodness! This is how we become Constantly Captivated by God!

As we advocate for and fight on behalf of precious children and families of Latin America, we need a source of power and strength to persist! We encounter sufficient power and strength to persevere when we are constantly captivated by, and obedient to, God Almighty! May this year help each of us to truly grow enthralled, captivated, and submitted wholeheartedly to God Almighty and His will here on earth!
