Home… What does that word mean to you? Is it a special house, a special town, a season, a place to be comfortable and relax, a place to raise the kids and rear them in the Lord, a place to get away from the craziness of this world, a place to be with your lover and lifemate, a place of stability and security? Well, I am reminded today of the many around the world who do not know what it is like to be a home owner, or what the sense of having a home really feels like.
Today, though I am still slightly sick from my week-long head cold, I got up early and went with a group from Amor Ministries across the Mexican border. We went to the ‘home’ (more like a little hut) of a women with six children, grandchildren, and extended family living with her. It was about the size of my kitchen in my apartment. The team and I set out this morning in cutting lots of lumber (2×4’s) and framing up a larger home to put on this lady’s property. We worked hard… measuring the specifications, sawing the wood, setting up the framing, pounding nails, and at the end of the day we had the amazing privilege of setting all of the frame on a foundation on this lady’s property. To see her, and some of her family’s smiles and joy at the beginning of a New Home, my thoughts quickly shifted.
I am 33, soon to be 34. I have never honestly known the feeling or sense of having a home. Living through immense abuse, neglect, and depravity before being moved through foster care, I have not had this well known privilege that many who read may yourself know. However, my thoughts did not shift to me… The shifted to the more than 10 million orphaned children throughout Latin America, and more than 40 million street children throughout Latin America, who have not yet ever known what it is like to have a home. This truth is what gives me the passion and determination to move forward daily, fighting to see Abogar International Ministries grow and see that we do get to the place where we WILL be creating New Homes throughout Latin America for these children… that they may know the stability, security, pleasure, and hope of a home!!
As the holiday season is upon us, and many of us have plans and people to share them with, I urge you to please take a moment and consider these children in Latin America, and consider what impact you can have! I invite you to prayerfully consider being a foundational supporter of Abogar… so that one day we WILL get these homes running. Please consider supporting me (http://abogarim.org/support/) so that I can get Abogar to the place it needs to be to be providing these Homes to others. I am NOT asking you to give me a home, give me anything, other than to support me to reach my needed salary goal for this year to be able to pay my bills, purchase the things needed for legally obtaining 501c3 nonprofit status with the government, and to be able to keep moving forward…
HOWEVER, if this is not pleasing to you, or you dont resonate in your heart with this, please consider donating to an organization that is ALREADY creating homes… www.amor.org AMOR Ministries. Either way, as you recline in your comfortable home this holiday season, please consider how you may be able to help others to also know the experience of having a home!! This is a huge gift you give… whether $5, $20, $50, $200, $500, or any other amount God may burden your heart with!! PLEASE consider changing lives with your donation… every $1 matters! And if you cant or wont give, please pray… Pray for me to one day know what it is like to truly have a home, but even MORESO please pray for these orphaned children and street children of Latin America to have heroes raise up who will invest in their futures… giving them a home and an opportunity to hear of and know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior!!
