What Matters Most?!

By July 6, 2014No Comments

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.    Colossians 3:1

As Abogar’s focus is to fight for children who are orphaned and homeless in Latin America to have Christ-centered homes, families, and education, it has been important to pray and seek God’s will and direction daily. As the board of directors, supporters, and I have been prayerful and listening for God’s voice and direction, many other voices, suggestions, advice, and opinions have been given. While there is often great insight, experience, and wisdom from these other influences I have been greatly challenged in the last couple of weeks to keep coming back to what matters most… not my plans, others’ plans, but God’s plans.

Starting and running a nonprofit is not my idea of a good time, a great project, nor honestly something of my human nature of desire. I am not a logistical person, not administratively minded, nor process oriented. Fundraising is not a strength I personally have. Yet all these aspects have fallen directly upon my shoulders as God has clearly led me to begin Abogar International Ministries. He has been clear in saying that this is His vision, His will, and His plan.

As I think about and set my heart on things above, I am keenly aware that as Abogar continues working on behalf of children, our focus is not to be on number counting, statistic taking, or result orientation… but rather on obedience and faithfulness to God’s heart for these children! While the number of children we are able to impact in the next few years may be significantly less than what we envision and hope for, each child’s life can have an exponential effect on the Kingdom of God as they grow in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. Maybe we will impact even more children than we anticipate, but honestly what matters most is that we are faithful and obedient with God’s call (James 1:27) to look out for these children. May we at Abogar continue striving to seek God and His will first, and remember to keep about what matters most!
